Fun times! This photo, entitled “The Scream,” just won second place in the Plants category of the Mt. San Jacinto Natural History Association’s 2013 photo contest. It will be on display at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Mountain Station from December 15th 2013 through March 31, 2014.
Jeremy and I did our first real backpacking trip during the supermoon weekend, hiking out to the Little Jimmy Springs Campground in the Angeles Crest Forest at night, setting up camp at about 11pm, and then climbing Mt. Islip the following day.
June 22nd supermoon, en route to the trailhead.
Snapping photos at pullouts.
… and sunset.
Climbing past a burn area.
View from the top of some interesting-looking clouds.
Jeremy’s happy to be at the peak!
The butterflies were going crazy at the peak, chasing each other around. We’re not sure if they were mating, or just fighting over territory.
View of the road

A closer look yields no answers.
Pretty pink flowers growing between cracks in the rock.
The same flowers, growing on the ground.
A daytime view of the trail we hiked up the night before.
And back to the parking lot.
